This week we enter together into the greatest drama ever to unfold. It begins with our celebration of Palm Sunday. How quickly the liturgy of Christ’s Passion turns, how quickly the people turned on our Lord, from shouting Hosanna to the King, to crucifying Him!
Saint Bruno, founder of the Carthusian Order, said: “While the world changes, the Cross stands firm.”
Our world is changing, but let us pray that we have the grace to stand firm with Jesus Christ. Together, let’s take this journey into Holy Week. In the link below, we share with you:
Following Holy Thursday Mass on April 6, 2023, the altar is stripped and the lights are dimmed. On this holy night, we invite you to join Fr. T.J. and other parishioners in the Holy Thursday tradition of a pilgrimage to seven churches.
The Easter Basket Blessing has been a European tradition for years. This is perceived as a grace before a meal; “Thanksgiving”. The blessed food is shared with family and eaten right before the main meal.
The custom of creating an Easter basket includes having the basket blessed on Holy Saturday. As we embrace our rich Catholic culture, we invite you to partake in this tradition.
Bring your Easter basket to St. Pius X 12:00 PM on Holy Saturday, April 8, 2023Traditional items to include in your Easter Basket:
The basket is covered with a white cloth during the short service, however uncovered for the blessing.

St. Pius X parishioner, Weronika Martinez, grew up in a Polish family. The Easter Basket blessing tradition is part of her experience that she is sharing now with her own family. We asked her, what does the Easter Basket Blessing mean to you?
"To me, food is a necessity in life and often taken for granted. Food feeds our heart, mind, (and soul). It gives us the strength (mentally and physically) to carry out God’s will. During a meal it is our time to come together as a family to say grace . On these special occasions, such as Easter, we have blessed food to unite us with Christ just as the Eucharist does at Church." - Weronika Martinez, Parishioner
